“As social creatures, we humans tend to place high expectations on our relationships with others. We often seek comfort and happiness from other people while neglecting to find solace within ourselves. While it’s very important to have a supportive network of people in our lives, we also need to develop personal strength in solitude. In this painting, the boat and lantern on the riverbank represent taking time out from our busy lives to focus on self-care and inner strength. Other people will come and go, but we have to live with ourselves for the rest of our lives, so learning to find solace within ourselves is one of the most important things we can do.“ - Margaret Irene
