I think it's important in Art we talk about things that we may not always feel comfortable talking about in person. And so this was a way for me to describe the moment in my life when I seroconverted (I'm HIV Positive).
And when that happened I also had to deal with meningitis. So I spent basically a week struggling for my life. So it's really about that struggle... that closure... the intense nature of going through that.
As you see the pill bottles, you see a reflection in the table top, and medication. But it's not just a piece about despair and difficulty. It's also a piece about hope and looking out past the situation into the future, and the beginning of something new.
So often we see things as a closure; an ending. But I think it's important to also remember that that situation can allow us to grow.
